8 Fall 2021 Trends To Start Wearing Now – Forbes

Believe it or not, we are now officially into the fall season, and with that, a whole new season of trends to try out. From unexpected color combinations to new takes on suiting to a refreshed approach to dressing up, these styles, as seen on runways, red carpets, and city streets, are worth taking for a test drive this fall.

Jeans and skirts are sitting lower on the hips these days, referencing the low-rise styles of the early 2000s. While starlets of the early aughts may have worn low-rise jeans in faded washes and ruffled mini skirts paired with T-shirts, today’s low-rise ensembles balance showing off abs and hips with sophistication, often worn with matching structured tops or jackets.

Get back to school day roots with preppy-inspired pieces like tennis skirts, letterman jackets, cable knits, and plaids. If you’re looking to add some edge to such pieces, pair with sturdy materials like leather and metals.

As the temperature gets cooler, the coats are getting longer. Maxi coats that hit between the shins and ankles were all over the runways and will be all over colder locales this winter as well. These chic coats can make even a simple sweatsuit look elegant, so they’ll be go-to pieces for anyone who has fully embraced athleisure dressing. They also look just as lovely with a classic T-shirt and jeans.

Over the past few years, clothing companies have been blurring the lines between loungewear and “outside” clothing, from Hill House popularizing the nap dress to any number of companies creating dressed-up sweatpants and other hybrid pieces. Now lingerie-inspired items are making their way into outfits on the street, from slip dresses and bloomers to lacy camisoles. Kristen Stewart’s Venice Film Festival outfit, a silk slip over bloomers courtesy of Chanel, cemented the idea that sleepwear isn’t just for the home these days.
