Hailee Steinfeld has hardly been under the radar for her entire career since her Oscar nomination for True Grit at age 14, but she is having a moment like we’ve never seen since then, as of this past month.
Steinfeld wrapped up her time with Dickinson on Apple Plus with a well-received third season. She voiced the lead in Arcane, the highest audience-rated Netflix series of all time. Now, she’s a breakout star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with her role as Kate Bishop opposite Jeremy Renner in Hawkeye. And it’s that final project that have rocketed her popularity sky-high over the past week in particular.
Parrot Analytics, which tracks demand for all things Hollywood, including actors, says that Hailee Steinfeld is currently the second most “in-demand” actor or actress in the United States since Hawkeye’s debut.
Hailee Steinfeld has 45.48x more demand than the average actor Parrot tracks, and there’s only one person above her, which is not shocking when you hear who that is. That would be Zendaya, at 70.19x, worshipped by the entire country, always in the news for either Spider-Man, Euphoria, her relationship with Tom Holland or whatever fabulous dress she’s wearing to an event.
Steinfeld tracks above The Rock (43.61x), Andrew Garfield (41.11x) and Keanu Reeves (37.79x) at the moment, all in the news for various projects (Red Notice, Spider-Man, The Matrix). She’s also higher than Black Widow herself, Scarlett Johansson, at 35.33x. On IMDB, she is literally the #1 actor on their “Starmeter,” reinforcing these findings.
All of this leads to what I believe was a pretty inescapable conclusion before all this: Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop is going to be a core anchor in the MCU going forward here, and going to be given a lot of screen time and responsibility. This could manifest in a few ways. A second season of Hawkeye seems inevitable, for one, with or without Renner. But the main theories are that Kate Bishop will either replace Clint on The Avengers, or more than likely, she will be leading The Young Avengers, a comic-based team that the MCU, particularly the Disney Plus shows, are already teasing. We’ve met Wiccan and Speed on WandaVision. America Chavez is coming in Doctor Strange. Kang’s arrival in Loki opens the door for Iron Lad. Patriot was glimpsed in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Hulking seems like he could show up in Ms. Marvel or the next Captain Marvel movie.

But yes, I imagine that Hailee Steinfeld will be front and center for all this. Perhaps not the Tony Stark of Phase 4 here but I mean, close? I’m not going to rule it out, at least on the TV side of things, though we don’t know what opportunities she might get to make her way to the big screen as well.
Arcane season 2 has also been greenlit, so expect Steinfeld to reprise her role as Vi for that. For now, we have three more Wednesdays of Hawkeye to go, and we’ll see where things end up with Kate Bishop when that’s over and done with, and what her next steps are likely to be.
